Default people with emissions

I was curious if anyone here lives in a state with Emissions, and what exhaust you run? I'm assuming if you get a full header/exhaust and lose al the cats you fail emissions pretty easily. Does anyone have any input? Can you lose the main cat but keep the small cats and pass?

Any info would be great

I would think at the very least, you would need the main cats. The small cats are usually for reducing the sound output thus quieting the exhaust. Visually, it wouldn't pass the unless the headers were CARB legal (here in california) which nothing for our F's are technically "CARB" legal and should technically be for "Off Road Use Only"...disclaimer from most aftermarket companies/parts.

Maybe Joe Z could fill in...

If you you remove the secondary cats and install a cat back exhaust system, you will pass the sniffer and you wont get a CEL with only the primary cats in place. However, if the inspector knows what he or she is doing you will fail visual. Remember, it is a federal offense to tamper with the catalytic converters. With that being said, a lot of us here are federal offenders, me included.

On the JoeZ or other exhaust's if I wanted to have a cat, pass the test. Then go back and put in a test pipe and remove the cat is their a spot in the exhausts for a cat? I was reading Joe Z's exhaust is catless. So I would need a spot with a few screws to add a cat then remove. IDK is anyone has that

And i'd get headers +full exhaust.. So I would try and pass with 1 main cat is possible
