3. I did the mod just as you showed it on the first post, so it's confirmed, I used a vacuum cap.

As I said I thought my car was faster. When I went to the track 2 months ago the air temp was about 86F, so this last Wednesday I was expecting better times because of this mod, and also because air temp was 66F. Two months ago I was runing 8.6@85MPH in the 1/8 mile, and you can imagine my surprise when this week my best run out of the first 6 passes was 8.7@84MPH. I wondered if the mod had something to do with being slower when I should be faster (at least because of the cooler night), so I removed the cap and connected the hose back. I had another pass right away and bam! 8.47@86.5MPH. The following 5 passes were similar. This experience showed me that the mod doesn't help performance-wise.

20 degree difference in air temp.......good for intake air, bad for tire grip. The warmer day will have a hotter track and give better grip. Too many variables. I don't know if the mod works, but a more controlled environment is needed for testing.

This is why I posted times before and after the mod. I basically picked up 0.2s in the 1/8 mile after pluging the vacuum hose back. These runs where done one after the other, during the same night, so conditions were identical.

I think what Stick is trying to say is that the colder track makes traction a issue where the warmer track traction wasn't too big of a concern.

I believe this mod give improved low end torque. I say this because that's what it feels like to me. With the colder track, and the higher torque down low (once again, just an assumption), you get a tiny bit more wheel spin resulting in a lower ETA and MPH. Now in the stock setup, you have less torque down low and therefore less wheel spin...Darshana S...

Sorry, but MPH trumps all. Better MPH means the engine is making more power. End of story.

I believe this is only true when it's measured in the 1/4 mile, not the 1/8th mile...

I was going to say the same thing. My trap speed went up right away, so I knew I was making more power.

I look forward to trying it. I just need to find a vacuum cap first.
I really like the sound of the second intake. It is usually hard to reach to over 3,600 to get it to roar.
I think it's worth it to try it even if there's no HP gain. The sound alone is worth it.

I just bought today a set of vacum caps and I'm eager to try it on.
