I've currently got 185 miles on my ISF and have an engine break-in question.
I'm supposed to be taking a trip out of state on Friday, but I'm not sure I should take the new ISF. The trip is 275 miles each way, but I seem to remember talk of not taking the car on long trips (does 275 miles count?) until after the break-in period. Something about not keeping the engine at steady RPM's for long periods of time.
What do you guys think? Some friends say a long trip is just the answer, while others say that a long trip is NOT the answer. I'm wondering what CL thinks.
COMON, people, STOP woriing about engine brake-in's!!!!
It is not like a hyundai or kia, that u cannot trust! I bet anyone, that u can run engine in full throtle from the begining and it will go without any problems for 200'000km.
If anything is faulty in engine, it will brake up in any case, weather u broke it in or not!
This engine is made for beeing used hard, so if u drive this engine 50.000km not leting it rew more than 3k rpm, it will start eating oil as mad, beacause of not sealed piston rings and other stuff that needs presure to work perfectly..
if you choose to do so, yes, 1000 miles. i think it's in the manual. and in it (i don't know about is-f) it should also say break-ins are not "needed".
you have no idea how lexus test the cars before the leave factory, all the high rev has been done

I broke in my IS350 driving back & forth to work in LA traffic...
On page 107 of the IS-F owner's manual it states:
-To extend the life of the vehicle, the following precautions are recommended to observe:
For the first 186 miles avoid sudden stops.
For the first 621 miles:
-Do not drive at extremely high speeds
-Avoid sudden acceleration
-Do not drive continuously in the low gears
-Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.
It doesn't hurt to get on it once in a while. It will help the seals and rings out a bit. At least that's what we do with the race car.....circle track stuff.
heh I don't think I followed what lexus said to break in the car exactly to the letter...but i was close...i got to 600 miles b4 i pushed the car to over 140mph....
