Default Hardwire Dashcam installation

Hey all, planning on hardwiring a dashcam. Just curious if anyone else has done this, and what fuses were used? I was going to tap HAZ (hazard lights) for constant power when the car is off. The cam is also looking for accessory power when the car is on.

Also, looking for any recommendations for wireless Apple Car Play dongles? Thanks!

I haven't wired one, but there is one that plugs into the rear view mirror and you don't need to run wires for anything. I think there is even a Lexus branded one for certain model vehicles.

I'll have to confirm with sales, but the website says it's not compatible. I have a Garmin mini 2 I was trying to use.

Try the regular 3rd gen IS forum, search for 'hardwire' in thread titles and you'll find a dozen threads.

Hazards and IG I no.2 is what you want (or maybe IG I no.1, but one of those 2)

Get some low profile micro add-a-circuits and you're good to go!

I'd assume Hazards would be the Battery and IG I no. 2 would be for ACC? I don't have a voltmeter handy to check.

Yep, but I actually wired to the rear shade for ACC since that only works when the car is started. I figured if anything happened, I don't need it anyway.

All that to scrap this idea when I found out Garmin makes OBD II plug to power my dashcam works for parking mode when the car is off too. I know tapping the fuse won't void the warranty, but for my own piece of mind, I can easily unplug my camera from the OBD II and remove the adapter, and all that's left is the Micro USB cable.

I bought this one the other day for a MY20 Tacoma and it seemed to work great. Quick re-connects and low latency. My IS is still inbound, so haven't been able to try anything there.

Not sure if you are still looking, but I just bought this one and I liked it so much I bought another for second car. We have been using one in our 2020 RX350 with no issues so far.

I'm sure that one works great, but the 'U2 Air' works great if you just need Carplay and is significantly cheaper. I think the difference is that the X Pro allows you to pipe Android Auto through a Carplay-specific interface. The U2 Air has worked great so far in my IS 500 using an iPhone 14 Pro.

I can attest to the U2 Air. Been using it for 6 months with no issues. I got it for $45 with a 3 year warranty a while back on Amazon.
