My $0.02 is prepare to be disappointed. This is a car that only exists in North America and Lexus NA basically asked for forgiveness, not permission. They aren’t going to spend any money to update the car, especially for the ostensibly last model year. The LC 500 got an update because it will be around for a few more years.
Japan has the IS 500, as well.
However, I will say I agree with the overall sentiment of your post. The 3IS has been around for a while. For Lexus to invest in the infotainment to, presumably, keep it alive even longer seems improbable compared to introducing an all-new IS in a couple of years.
Well there is always hope. I was looking to this model as a potential purpose primarily because the V8 is wonderful, but it is harder to consider if the technology is well behind all cotemporary standards and it is a version that cannot be updated. Hard pill to swallow in 2024 model year. Unfortunately the new version in 2025 will likely be a V6 or even worse a turbo 4 like the Maxx engine. I will see what happens.

Honestly... I don't even see the newer infotainment as a worthy upgrade. I think most people out there just want to connect Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and call it a day. The new nav with cloud-optimized routes is kind of a marketing exercise. Optimal routes are also downloaded from the cloud in the infotainment system we currently have in the IS 500 anyway. Sure, wireless smartphone connectivity would be nice, but at the end of the day, that isn't going to decide whether I buy a car or not. If I don't feel like plugging the phone in, I just won't. It has Bluetooth anyway.
So that's my rant. tl;dr The new infotainment doesn't seem that interesting to me because the existing one does everything I want it to.
Fair enough. Auto show coming up in November. I will get a real look at the 2024 and see how big a deal I think it is. I am mostly an old school person and like the V8 and no AWD. Alot of good things going for it; that's for sure.

when you think about it they already invested a lot in the 2021+ IS, yes they used same 3IS chassis but they changed the welding process, introduced laser screw welding added more adhesives to strengthen the chassis even more, build a completely new test track for lexus and toyota, almost completely new exterior styling, and under the radar created the IS500. The infotainment they won't change cuz is already close to the end of this gen of IS. The reason the LC and LS got changed was probably people complained enough and it is a newer "TNGA-L" platform compared to the IS "New N" platform. Personally I don't like the new infotainment, too much subscription bs, I test drove the new RX and was playing around with it, and loosing a lot of buttons and putting most of the stuff on the screen and had to go thru menus after menus suck.

I'm satisfied even with the wired carplay/android auto. I got a wireless adapter and disconnected it as i'm perfectly happy with bluetooth audio 90% of the time I drive the car. Mainly due to the position of my magnetic phone holder. For that 10% of the times I need navigation or wantto keep my phone charged i plug in.

That’s it exactly.
Side note, I normally see Lexus North America written out, not ‘Lexus NA’. I’m digging this Naturally Aspirated, North American-ness! 😎🤘🏽
Technology is completely fine. One of the reasons I purchased is that is doesn’t have an all screen dash. I don’t want everything to be in the dash and not buttons. Added Android Auto and CarPlay wireless cost about $60 and a wireless charger about $15 and I know it fits my phone. I don’t need lots of spinning pictures of my car in different modes and such like. Just my view.

Exactly this! My gf has an outback and everything is controlled through the touch screen. It is by far the most annoying thing with newer cars.

It was originally for my spyder, but since i sold the car, i found it can also be used for the lexus as well. It's the same concept as the cd player phone mount but secured in between the console and knee pad, like you noticed.

sorry for derailing this thread but I saw a tension mount and a magnetic mount. Does the magnet mean it’s MagSafe? Will it work on more recent iPhones like the 14 ?

I also hate the new touch screen HVAC and piano black trends. There are no deal breakers for me in my IS.
Until touch screens feel as good as a phone or tablet I'll stick with buttons. I honestly have nothing against touch screens, but the auto industry seems to not want to invest in making them feel good to the touch. Also It looks tacky to me in all current iterations. For example the LCI BMW 3 series looks terrible, why did they change it from how it was pre LCI where it looked pretty well integrated to the dash?
