Hey all! Complete NOOB here…but loving the car! I have searched around but have a quick question:
I want to go just a little bit wider on new wheels and tires, not sticking out but almost flush would be ok as the stock just looks like they’re too small. I figured 19 would be perfect, with it being AWD, would I go 19x9 all the way around? And what tire would you recommend?

I don't know how offsets work but how I understand it is the lower it is, the more 'aggressive' it is (the outer lip of the rim poking out). Reason I mention this is the IS platform isn't as compatible with lower offset wheels unless you start modifying the fender (which I would definitely not want to do).
I went 19x9 +30 offset and my rim is basically flush with the body of the car which I think is the limit (I am AWD as well).
Another thing to note is tire / wheel diameter size. You want to stay within the same spec as OEM or your car will throw an AWD error code. Go on 'willtheyfit.com' and put in 225/40/18, wheel size is 18x8, and +45 for the front (I think off the top of my head?) and you will see the diameter. I went with 235/35/19 which is slightly bigger than the OEM spec but still within that margin of percent where it won't throw the code. I went 235/35/19 all around so I could rotate the tires but I like how the staggered set up drove.
I was also a complete noob, I would consider myself still am but hopefully this helps. @Sasnuke helped me with everything and still does so reach out to him if he's available to help.

I wanted the most concave / flush fitment I could get on 19" wheels. Looking back at it now, I think I should've maybe went 18's because I think 19's might look too big on the car because my OEM wheels look fine too. I think if I can get a thicker tire on in the back I'll be happy. I'm just worried about bending a wheel or messing up a tire more now than before. I have a lip coming in so hopefully that makes the car look better

The look is really up to you...I have aftermarket staggered 18's that are wider than stock and they look just fine to me.
If you're doing 18x9 you could do 235/40/18, 255/30/18, or 265/35/18. Kinda depends how much tire you want.
With AWD you want the diameters of the wheels to all be the same. They can be larger than stock, but you don't want to go too crazy.
Stock wheels have a diameter of 25 inches. You can go up to 25.5 inches...but if you plan to lower the car I wouldn't go bigger.
Depending on the offset of the rim will also dictate what tire size you get.
If you choose 18x9 then I would look at a 235/40/18 or maybe 255/30/18 tire.
If you're deciding between 18 and 19" wheels, go into the wheel showcase and see but IMO I think 18's look good on this car, fills the wheel well up fine and you can throw a thicker tire on it as well.
As Sasnuke mentioned, you have to be within that 25" diameter total, so for my wheels, if I want to go thicker with the 255 tire, I would need to do 255/30/19.. 30 sidewall tire is super thin but it is what it is. With an 18" rim, you would have a big more to play with as he mentioned with a 40 sidewall tire or even a tire as thick as 265/35.
As he mentioned, the look is completely up to you, I think with a lip kit, it should make the wheels not look as bulky.
Before you get wheels, I suggest may be throwing on some spacers, 25mm front and 20mm rear for the flush look and give it a drop. That's what I was running before and I really enjoyed that look and miss it a little bit.
I won’t be dropping it, just gonna add new wheels and tires and thought 19x9 would look good, so with the 19x9, which tire size would keep me in the 25” range?

Website said these were 19x8.5 +45 in front. Keep in mind this appears to be an IS250 (smaller brakes up front).
