Default 2016 IS300 AWD RR Racing tune

Hey guys I been reading a lot of the threads here regarding the tune, I hope it is fair to say that the tune alone will allow my is300 to have atleast as much torque and HP as the IS350. I don't really want to any mods like the headers or full exhaust. But I really would enjoy a harder pull

Can anyone explain the process of this OBD tune? I haven't gotten word back from RR. I am assuming they send us the OBD device and we plug it in to our OBD port. What happens from there? Im not very experienced but I remember seeing that the IS300 2016 can be tuned at home.

Last question, any one experience changes in MPG for normal driving? (my highway MPG conservative is like 21-22)

Regarding the RR racing tune, you can always message them here or give them a call. A couple of options to do it so it will depend on which one you want to do or you are comfortable at.

MPG question, a lot of variables depend on it, and 21-22 is high for me since I drive like a maniac. I'll be happy if I get a stable 18mpg on mine. Usually stays on 16mpg on mixed highway/city.

I've had my tune for about 4 months now and love it. One of the best things I did to my car. I can explain the process, it's pretty easy. I'll mention all these instructions are included when they send you the unit.

1. They send you the OBD handheld tuner
2. The first step is to plug it into a PC or laptop and update the unit to the newest update.
3. Next you plug it into your cars OBD port and follow the on screen instruction. Very simply. A few button presses. What this does is pull the ECU information specific to your car and uploads it into the unit.
4. Now you take the tuner back to the PC or laptop and download the file it just uploaded into it from your car. You then email that file to RR racing.
5. RR racing will reply to your email with a map file for your car.
6. You download the file they sent you into the handheld unit via USB and your computer.
7. Now you go back to your car, plug it in, follow the on screen commands to apply the tune.

Boom, done.

Again there is written instructions for all this included with the unit so the whole process is simple when you have the unit and instructions right in front of you.

You won't feel the tune right away and have to let the ECU relearn your driving habits - they mentioned should be all set after 50 miles of driving. The best way to confirm if the tune successfully flashed is the rev limiter to 7200 (3rd and 4th gear, sport mode + manual + tc off).

this is great feedback guys! really appreciate it!

Will likely wait for my warranty to run out first,
anyone have any issues caused by this tune (potentially)?

For me personally, I felt the tune right away, but it just improved more and more over time.

I think even the baseline tune they send you, depending on what other mods you already have, will increase power and smooth the power curve right away, then the ECU will continue to make further adjustments to fuel trims, ect, improving the tune over time. Obviously the tune does less at the very start than it does after some time with it, so I see your point and some people may not actually notice a difference right away, but I did, not saying huge, but I noticed. But it may also depends on what other performance mods you have on how much different it feels off the bat.

Zero so far for me! Haven't heard of anyone else having issues either.

That's really up to your patience on when to get the tune. I couldn't stand the stock ECU performance (that throttle lag) and got lucky they already had the 17 tune done when I got my car so right away I drove to them.

You can always flash your ECU back to stock anytime if needed (if you opt to keep the obd tuner). No so familiar with the 2016, but for the 2017 - they didn't have the obd tuner that time so had to drive or to send the ECU option.

Issues : I agree with Mike on the 0 issues.

When I installed it on my ‘17 it was a similar setup of instructions. Easy to do and RR was great to deal with every step of the way. I was very worried about bricking my ecu at first, but it’s pretty foolproof if you read and follow the instructions.

Once it was installed I thought it was pretty funny as I didn’t know I had to turn off the TC, put in sport, and drive in manual, so the car acted pretty erratic out the gate. I just had the sinking feeling in my stomach to say the least. Mashed the gas and thud, nothing spectacular, felt the throttle response was better but no 7200 rev, but it did seemed a little better than the stock. Then I seen the procedure for unlocking, if you will, the optimum performance, good golly, you couldn’t remove the smile off my face. Best money I’ve spent on this vehicle.

My mpg’s are improved slightly around town 22-24 (city) and highway 28-30. It’s no fuel sipper, coming from Camry V6 but it’s not too bad in comparison as it average 25-26 and 28-32 respectively. Now I have 53k on my odometer and zero issues of cel’s to speak of due to the tune. It is a daily driver, I mean daily, so I take it every where every day and it is serviced at the dealer as well. She only sits in the evenings during the work week.
