Hello all, just got my '18 IS350 F-Sport (Atomic Silver/Rioja Red) last month, and already I'm looking at mods. I'd like to upgrade the exhaust with an axle-back and later a mid-pipe and finish the plumbing, and I'm having a bit of trouble finding the right tone. To each their own, but I don't care for the higher pitched pissed off bumblebee sound - I'd like the lowest grumble I can find (I know it's a 6, but I've been in V8's pretty much all my life), so (based solely on youtube videos) I'm thinking Invidia and Ark are out. I kind of like the Magnaflow, and I'm also thinking about trying to fit the Borla for the 14-17 into my 18. Has anyone done that? I found a post by Sasnuke over in the Dumb Questions thread and he/she says generally single tip systems from 14-17 will bolt up and should clear the diffuser. Ideally I'd like to go with single tips on each side and put the square OEM's back on. I know many of you hate those things, but I like the clean lines.
So I guess I've got multiple questions here: How difficult is is it to mate a 14-17 exhaust to an 18? Has anybody done so and put the OEM tips back on? And finally, if anyone has recommendations for other exhaust systems I may not have considered, I'd appreciate it (my budget is in the Magnaflow/Borla range, not the GTHaus range)
Any 3IS available for any year will bolt up to the vehicle...however depending on the tip size shape will really determine if it interferes with the diffuser.
In 2017 they changed to the teardrop exhaust tip going forward.
If you did buy an aftermarket exhaust, whatever tip it comes with you'll need to cut it off and have the OEM tips affixed to it...either welded on, or, a piece of pipe welded to the exhaust muffler, and then the OEM tips attached.
It would be a shame to get a nice exhaust with a nice tip, only to cut it off...but I can also appreciate having the OEM tip to give it that OEM look, but with that aftermarket sound...gives the impression it was from the factory like that.
Just a suggestion since you want to OEM tips...take the car to an exhaust shop and have them cut off the stock mufflers, weld on whatever muffler you want, like Magnaflows, and then attach the tips to the muffler.
Essentially you'll get the sound and look you want, but for a lot less. They could even make the pipe for the axleback as well so you don't have to cut the stock exhaust...basically a custom exhaust.
