actually one of the main reason why I drive in manual is because of my intake. I have injen short ram so on automatic the BOV gets annoying! With manual mode I only hear it when I shift.

Yeah, if you want the manual transmission experience, get a vehicle with one. It's that simple. You can't expect an auto to work just like manual, that makes no sense lol. Unless its a DCT, that's the closest you'll get to a sorta auto sorta manual.

it ain't that simple, manual paddle shifting on other cars does not automatically shift 300-500 rpm's before your rev limiter into the next gear in MANUAL mode, theres absolutely nothing "manual" about that and EVERYTHING automatic about it, it even downshifts for you. I've owned cars trucks and motorcycles with manual transmissions man, I'm not an idiot, this is not play station, this is a $48,000 dollar car that says it has a manual shift mode, its a lie

He's saying he does not want it to up shift when it hits (or near) the rev limiter. There's many auto cars that will allow you to do it. I get where he's coming from although it doesn't bother me because this isn't an all out performance car.

if the car is in manual and shifting against your will - it is trying to protect transmission or the engine from your crude gear selections. Perhaps it is time to learn to drive manual.
Why post this unhelpful response?

If you turn off traction control all the way, you can hit the rev limiter. This can be done by holding the TC OFF button for 3 seconds while the car is motionless.

By the way, I'm sorry for the judgmental posts by Olasek. That response was not called for.

Were you born a douchebag, or is that something you developed into over time? Asking for a friend.

I don't understand why members here got elitist about driving manual transmissions. This forum is for owners of a vehicle which comes ONLY in automatic. Get real.

That being said, I don't think manual mode in the IS is a lie, since it offers more control than most. In some cars I don't know whether it's possible to hit the rev limiter at all. Some won't let you floor it at <2000 RPM without downshifting. The IS lets you do both.

I only use manual + sport + disable traction control whenever there is a "d*ckhead" in front me.

Agreed.

However I'm convinced sport mode is faster no matter how I shift. Straight line or 0-XXmph same difference but torque and rolling accel cant be matched by sport mode.

Yeah I drove in normal + manual today a bit, incidentally. I agree, Sport feels a bit more responsive, if anything.

Yeah I typically drive somewhat softly on trans and dif even when pushing kind of aggressively.

But, I've tried my best to replicate sport mode and otherwise just make the best of manual mode. No matter how hard I beat on the thing or how much I utilize downshifts etc...its just never as responsive as sport. Which is fine, all drive modes serve their purpose nicely imo.
