Upshifting in Manual mode

Upshifting in Manual mode
Is there anything that should keep the transmission from upshifting when in manual mode? I noticed this morning that I can't upshift at certain slower speeds. I figure it might be a safety feature like not letting you downshift at higher rpms when the computer knows engine will redline. It was just something that I have not noticed before.
Thanks.
Thanks.

When the car is in "protected mode" it will behave differently as opposed to when it is fully warmed up. You will notice this by the revs being limited to somewhere below the normal red line on the tach. If it's fairly cold, it might be down around 5500 or so. I was informed about this by a Lexus tech when I had an issue with how the car was shifting in S+ (that and manual is pretty much the only way I drive it) first thing in the morning. I'm guessing that is what you are experiencing.

The upshift limitation is just a calculation on where the final RPM would be at after the shift is completed. If the computer determines that a torque deficit will occur (basically the engine requires a downshift) it will inhibit the upshift in the first place.
If you're still in the initial "warm up restriction" mode, it's entirely possible that a downshift from torque deficit will require greater RPM than redline to overcome, which may also cause further upshifting to be inhibited. But I've never had mine stay at 3K limit for more than a few seconds before rising to a driveable level.

I've been having some crazy problems with this trans. First under hard braking the shift lever would slide into nuetral. Then occassionally it will do this thing where it just sticks in gear. Fluid level is fine, and I tested the fluid, looked good. Really getting to me now!

Even in manual, well after warmup, dealer doesn't know why. Fluid is testing on my end as good and good level from dealers end. Yes they adjusted something on the shift rod but now the shifter feels all notchy.
