Default Manual mode effect an automatic transmission?

I have a 2004 automatic and I've had people tell me that manual mode is bad for the transmission? I couldn't see why it would be bad for it i just wanted some feedback.

I don't think Toyota would make a feature on a product of theirs' that would damage itself.

I don't think it's possible to damage the car using manual mode. It's computer controlled, so it only works within the engine parameters (speed, temperature, RPM, etc)
