Default Manual or E-Shift Transmission ?

Hey guys, I've decided to buy an IS300 ... now I have to decide Manual vs. E-Shift. The delima is the fun (+ the headache of Rush-hour) driving of the manual; or an option of both (+the wife can drive it too) ???

Is there a huge difference in the performance ?

Will I be dissapointed, or is e-shift option good enough ?

get the manual for sure, that's what i had. and if i am to do it again, i would still get the manual, period. i am not really afraid of traffic or so, that's still the fun to me imho.

and yes, the manual is a lot faster than the e shift, almost a second to 60mph i believe.

juniorsdad, thanks for the reply.

Do you feel that when driving in the e-shift mode, you are dependent on the computer to shift when you press the button, or is it very responsive?

Are you able to push the RPM to 6000 before shifting up ?

The IS doesnt have any kind of "smart" transmission a la SMG. It's a traditional tranny where in there is a little bit of lag before the upshift. At full throttle, if you hit the e-shift at 6k RPM, you are likely to hit the rev limiter unless you take your foot off of the gas. The e-shift is still quicker in terms of shifts than the automatic.

BTW, I'd do anything for a 5 speed at this point Do it Then you don't need to worry about your wife taking your car when she needs to go somewhere

responsive...so-so; uh, it is what it is...!?! kind of fun to play with once-in-awhile
there is a slight delay that can be minimize if you get an ESK
yeah, you can push 6000... i've taken it past, right before the rev limiter
