From what I read I would guess yes. I believe even one of the lexua SUV models had this or something similar. Give it a shot, while in Drive mode (not manual mode) attempt to select a gear using the paddle shifters.

My conclusion is it doesn't work too great as its described by Lexus. But it does allow us to select a lower gear quickly without having to switch over to manual mode.

My G37S does this, if I don't switch to M mode and I'm in auto, once I change gears manually with the paddles then it will just revert back to automatic once I don't manually change gears myself (probably like 5-10 seconds before it reverts if I don't give any paddle shift input). If I am in M mode it won't shift by itself unless slowing down and it will downshift automatically but never upshift. I am going to try it out on my IS.

Nice for downshifts when I dont want to be in manual mode. However, would be even nicer if it worked as it seems it's supposed to. When in traffic, I dont need the car shifting up to 5th gear at 25mph, but rather would like to limit this to say 3rd gear as I know I'm about to slow back to 5mph.

Yes. I've found the best method is to use the paddles to downshift to 3rd on corner entry. The temporary mode will last long enough to avoid that obnoxious upshift to 5th at 25 MPH coming out of the corner. The problem is remembering to do it.

I actually tried this the other day and the temporary range restriction doesn’t last long at all! It’s honestly pretty useless, much easier to stay in M mode if you want to stay in certain gears haha.

I 100% agree. Even for engine braking downhill, it's not necessary since it does so automatically if you tap the brake.

It will stay in the range, or lower gear, for long time with mine.

What disengages the function is pressing the accelerator for 4 seconds continuously (based on my counting). But just cruising no gas....it will stay in that range so long as I dont push the gas.

Because of this, I agree it is pretty useless.

Mines a 14' and they do change some seemingly pointless little things through the different model years. Maybe yours behaves differently.
