Default Manual Mode?

Hi guys is there a way to make your manual mode not automatically go to 4th gear whenever you switch over to it from automatic mode?

Also sometimes when I down shift I have to shift it a few times for it to go from second gear to first gear. Anyone else have that issue?

Are you below the maximum speed for shifting from 2->1? You can only shift after you slow down to a certain speed (can't recall it ATM).

it doesn't always go to 4, it depends on your speed i believe. but if you are over certain cruising speed, putting it in manual and it will default into 4. don't think you can change that

for the 2nd to 1st (or any other downshift), you have to be below certain speed for each gear otherwise the computer won't allow you (or it will rev up too high)

It doesn't matter on my speed as even if I am stopped and I shift over to manual it says 4th. I guess that makes sense about going from 2 to 1 as sometimes I tend to slow down really slow and try to downshift so I can lay off on the brake as it slows down really fast and saves your breaks.

really, umm, gotta try it out again. if that's the case i guess it's working different from the 8 speed on 460

Is anyone driving in manual, full-time? Do you have a 350 or 460?

Would any wear and tear on the transmission caused by downshifting be offset by the savings on less use of the brakes?

i think at 8 gears we have reached the limit of diminishing returns. Or maybe we'll get CVT like the 450H.
having driven the 8 speed, it's a lot of gears and indeed quite a bit of shifting specially at lower speed, but i think lexus has done a pretty good job in that. next step though should just be cvt

I drive around town in manual in my 460 quite a bit. I find that I don't normally shift higher than 4th or 5th, so the 8 gear transmission isn't too big a deal for me.
