About a month ago I noticed a hairline crack on my mirror. Now there is a huge black blob on it I'm not sure how or why this happens. I was wondering if anyone experienced this or knows why this happens. Thank you in advanced!
There's a liquid in there for the dim on the mirror and that's what you are seeing. Had my mirror cracked as well, and I had to replace the mirror. You probably don't want that to drip on your paint if it steeps through, might cause some damage. I'd replace it as soon as you can.

Thanks for your input, I'm going to order the glass ASAP hopefully it doesn't happen again.
if your vehicle is still within warranty, i'd bring it in to have them look at and see if they can replace it so there is no money out of your pocket.
Took a ride to the dealership, they said they can't do anything due to the hairline crack. They said it was physical damage, and can't fix it under warrenty. Thank you for the input!
The hairline crack happened to me on my passenger's side. I tried just replacing only the glass, but it was more trouble than I could deal with. The original glass had some sort of adhesive on the perimeter and was pretty well recessed into the sides of the black plastic barrier. My DIY job turned out to be crap... Ended up ordering a pre-owned part off ebay instead... Still waiting for it to arrive. For reference, the unit (glass already attached) was around $110. The glass alone I think was $20-$35.

Why would you you ever try to remove JUST the glass??? Just buy the mirror and replace it, much more simple.
grab that or any other one off ebay, remove the mirror from here and put it in yours. Had a forum member on here actually help me out. This way it is OEM and has the dim and monitor indicator on it that matches with the other one.

Straight up - thought I could just do the cheap route. Ended up just doing what you basically suggested, which really was way more simple. Live and learn :/
I ended up picking this item up on ebay though. Hopefully the link works

If you end up picking up the mirror off ebay, here's a link to the thread I started which actually has information on it which will help you to replace it.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2014 IS250 AWD with 24k miles. Dealer said it "delaminated". $528.40 to fix. Warranty expired in November. Not happy about it, at all. I will say that the mirror showed the spot then cracked a week or so later. To say that it is physical damage that caused this is BS IMHO. As an owner of 3 lexus vehicles, another 5 past vehicles, I am growing really weary of how Lexus handles certain things.
