Why does my 2016 IS 200 T just stop
I was pulling out across 3 lanes of traffic; nothing in front of me and all of a sudden the car just stopped. The engine continued to run but absolutely no response from depressing the accelerator .

Need a little more information on the situation if you can.
Do you have the pre collision system? I know that you said nothing was in front of you, but sometimes, very very rarely, my PCS detects things when there is nothing there and gives me a warning. It never actually applied brakes yet though. The only time it did actually brake was when I was accelerating to make a quick lane change at highway speeds and it thought I was going to hit the vehicle in front of me. In the few situations where it has warned me with no other cars there, though, I'm not sure what it's picking up. The roads over here are absolutely terrible, so I'm not sure if maybe some of the rough patches / bumps may somehow throw off the radar. Yes, it freaks me out every time lol.

Yes, the car has the pre-collision system. When you were accelerating to make a quick lane change at highway speeds, did your car come to a complete stop? Mine did.

if you didn't get the red "BRAKE!!" warning with the beeping tone, though, then it is likely a different issue going on with the car, and not the PCS. I'd definitely have this checked at the dealership. This could have ended very badly. I'm happy that you're okay.

The issue sounds more like traction control. You can press the gas pedal all you want, but while the car detects slippage, it will not let you give it gas...
Pulling out across 3 lanes sounds like you were pulling out fast across the 3 lanes??

That happened to my RX-8. I lost control in the rain and the traction control made the car not move when the accelerator was being pressed.

Definitely sounds like traction control. Traction is cool for everyday driving and even in the rain. But once there is ice or snow down on the road I turn it off. I do a pretty good job myself making sure the wheels have traction. I'd rather be able to drive out of a slide then be stuck hitting the gas with no response.
