It works fine for BMW. I have one. The oil got changed about every 13,000 miles, when the computer told me to. Synthetic oil isn't going to get "gunky" in 10,000 miles.

I would skip the 5000 miles / 6 months "maintenance" too... it seems unnecessary for many

Hi guys. I have the same question as OP. I've had my IS350 F-sport for a year and 2 months now and I just hit 5k miles (I carpool to work). At this rate, I would hit 10k in about 2 years and 4 months. Not having my oil changed for over a year makes me feel uneasy, but I also do not want to change it if it is not necessary. I know nothing about motor oil so i am seeking more information/advice from some of you that may know more than me.

Should I just change it every year, 10k miles, or every 6 months regardless of how many miles?

I greatly appreciate your help, guys!

I drive less than 10k a year, so I have the oil changed at 12 month intervals.

In your case I would just do one oil change per year, only because oil does absorb moisture and the car really isn't being driven enough to get the moisture out of it. It won't harm it leaving it well enough alone, but for me, and my peace of mind, that's what I would do.

mfang210 - if you feel uneasy go
ahead and change your oil but I have read and heard from people in the industry whom I trust that with current generation of synthetic motor oils you can go up to 2 years without changing oil. The only requirement is that when you drive infrequently you drive distances that allow the engine to fully warm up.

My car is a 2014 and still has under 9,000km. I store it in the winter and change the oil in the spring once a year.

I appreciate the feedback, guys! Looks like I will be changing the oil once a year if I can't hit the 10k miles interval a year. The IS350 is my first luxury sports car and I LOVE it, and I just want to make sure that it runs smoothly for a long time.

I don't drive my IS more than around 7.5K miles last year. So I do base on 12 months. Down the road, it will be 7.5K or 12M.
My other cars I also do oil change every 7.5K miles that's around 8-9 months.
I do change oil if it's more than 4K before any long trip that's more than 1K miles. Just want to make sure when I come back from the trip the odo doesn't go over 6K miles. Is it a waste to do it that way. I don't know, but give me a piece of mind before the trip.
Over all, I think it's depend on your driving habit (hard/soft/insane) and location.
