E46CT, I'm still waiting for the day I run into you on the road; I'm always looking for your SLM!
I think the lag is there, and from a dead stop it does take a bit to spool up. I probably should have clarified - the reviews I read were on edmunds.com and the way a couple people described it you'd think they hit the accelerator and nothing happened for 1-1.5 seconds. One person called it "dangerous". I don't get anything close to that. In city driving it picks up an goes just fine. However based on the known lag, I'd be careful if I had to make a move into busy traffic or something.

Yeah my IS200t doesn't like to be floored from a dead stop. I wonder how the BMW 328s feel. I drove it once but never that hard. It's been a while.

I also wonder if the quoted 0-60 time of 6.9s is from a dead stop. If it is, then that means the "launched" time might be a second or two faster putting it on par with the BMW 328i.

Mason which IS do you have? I'm in the Irvine area.

From my experience with the 328, it doesn't have that same accelerator lag. I can't verify, but 6.9 sounds about right from a dead stop as that initial 1 to 2 second delay makes sense when compared to the 328i's 5.5~ 0-60 time.

My IS is an EWP 200t non-F. It's not heavily modified visually, but the satin white front emblem is probably the most notable feature; I'm also in Irvine, but I'm on the "southern" side closer to UCI/Newport .

Cool I'll be on the look out for you. I'm near the 5 and Jeffrey. But I work around your side. So we may cross. What color is EWP? lol.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from a DEAD STOP, turbo lag wouldn't be the cause of the 1-2 sec delay. From my experience w/ the is200t, the 1-2 sec delay depends on the drive mode. The delay is very noticeable on Eco and Normal modes. The accelerator is more responsive in Sport mode. Perhaps on Eco and Normal the transmission starts on off on 2nd gear for better fuel economy and comfort (less of a jerk from a dead stop). That's how our Mercedes acts (Comfort vs Sport modes). Not sure if this is the case with Lexus.

Interesting. Even in sport mode with manual shifting, I still notice it. E46CT, EWP is Eminent White Pearl; it's the new pearl white which replaced Starfire.

Engine will always output 100% of its power when floored, regardless of mode. All the drive modes do (for the pedal at least) is change throttle mapping likely via voltage input vs pedal travel. Probably ramps up sooner and at a faster rate if I were to guess specifics. Less pedal effort required. Same with any car

As far as gears, I'll have to check again, but from what i remember noticing, the car starts in gear 1 from a stop regardless of mode. you can watch the gear select indicator

you are correct. eco/sport, auto or manual shifting dead stop take offs with the pedal planted have no effect on turbo lag. the turbo has to spool up to get full torque. advertised for the 200t as 258 ft lbs@1,650 rpms

Lag is present even with the NX. It's the engine more than transmission gearing. Floor it from a dead stop and it slowly moves forward for one second then lunges forward with a strong pull. If you want a lag-free strong launch, brake torquing it does the trick but it's not a sustainable action due to the stresses on the powertrain. Best time 0-60 time with the NX with this launch I got is 6.9 s. I'd expect the IS to hit low to mid 6s in this manner.

Yeah I've been meaning to try the launch method but I feel bad cause I know it's high stress. If I did it, I would hold let go of the brake as soon as the desired (highest) rev was reached a to not overheat/overstress the TC/related components! I imagine the time can be improved with some light weight 18" wheels too.
