Hi All...i did some digging through the 3IS threads and didn't find anything related to my issue, here it goes:
Just washed my IS200t F-Sport, the car is a month old, and I just noticed some odd stains on the 2 driver side wheels. The passenger side wheels do not have any stains on them, I've never seen anything like this on any of my past cars, not sure if anyone else here has seen something like this on their F-Sport wheels. See pics attached...
Yeah, I just washed the car and that's how I noticed the stains. I was going to try to spray more degreaser on it, but it didn't seem like it'd make a difference since a wet rag didn't even alter the spot
Did you dry the rims after you washed them? In my old RX-8 the rims would have some water stains and dirt stains after I cleaned the rims but didn't dry them enough. I haven't seen those on my 3IS. What did you use?
I've seen some guys on the forum have posted that they used wheel cleaners or other stuff to clean the rims and got some staining from them that looks a lot like that. Before I coated mine, I just used car wash soap with no problems. Just remember they're just clear coated paint and anything that you wouldn't spray on the cars paint you may want to keep off the wheels. You mentioned you used degreaser which will strip any wax or paint sealant on them that's protecting the paint. I'd try and clay bar that area and see if it comes out then seal them with a good wax made for wheels. I've got Pinnacle black label wheel coating on mine and the little dust that does stick washes off completely with the hose or even a good rain shower.
Anyone else experiencing these type of problems? 2016 f-sport here and it stilling occurring. Under 10 car washes and some stains idenical to pics on here. I did the first detail wash and applied smartwax wheel wax to "protect", still didn't repell any staining and the dealer was the only other place that wash the car. Pretty annoying being a new car and all.
I wash my wheels once a week. Sometimes twice. they're perfect factory new every time i wash them. I wonder if its just the brake dust causing the stains.
Could be from wheel or tire cleaner, or tire dressing slinging on a hot wheel. Some cautionary bits of advice I've picked up from the Care and Detailing forum: Beware of spraying wheel or tire cleaner on hot surfaces. and avoid getting tire dressing on wheels as that might also lead to this staining when the wheel heats up.
