3IS scrape/scratch paint help please!
Hey everyone,
I'm quite new to this forum. Recently, I noticed that there is this DEEP scratch to my front bumper. I believe it is hit & run because I did not do this as I recall. I believe the scratch is so deep that it went through all the layers of my paint. The black part feels like it is the base color of the bumper. Ive been calling around to get an estimate. $450 was the cheapest because they said the car color is pearl which requires three coats. I'm not familiar with cars so I don't know if this is a decent price. Are there any other alternative way to fix this...? Please help! Anything would be appreciated.
P.S i dont know how to flip the picture vertically..sorry!

$450 is reasonable. You need to remember that its not just painting the scratch. They need to sand it, then paint and also blend it so you don't notice the area was painted. And yes, it is a 3 stage paint which adds a little extra work.

Why not buy touch up paint from Lexus and wait until you get a few of them then get the whole thing painted? I'm pretty sure you will get a few more. I used touch up on my car and it blends pretty well.

from experience these metallic paint jobs never blend in well because of the three stages the painter has to go through. most won't notice the mis-blend but you will unfortunately. =/
For that big of a scratch i would look into buying the bumper painted from the factory.
good luck =)

I had a similar scratch from a parking lot on my old Acura TSX with the white pearl paint. I had a body shop fix it, and they did a stellar job with the matching and blending of the paint. The key is finding a good shop with a good warranty/guarantee on their work.
Best of luck!

I'm using drpaintchip ($50 fix) and the color does not really match! However if you scratch or chip is small enough, it does the job of covering up the spot. Even tho you can see the repaired spot, still looks a lot better than the exposed bumper black color. My plan is to get my bumper repainted few years down the line.
Your scratch looks pretty big, not really sure if there's a good temporary fix, if I were you, I'd give the drpaintchip a try first, if you can't live with it, $450 isn't that bad to be honest. I think a decent paint job will cost $600+.
