Default S Mode (gear limiter) Not Working

I have a 2006 IS250 AWD. When I shift down to D the light on the dash doesn’t light up green. It lights up for P , R and N but not drive. When try to put gear shifter into S mode, on dash , the S lights up and displays a 4 next to it and then it quickly disappears. Unable to go into “manual” mode. Can’t limit the gears. Anybody have any ideas on this problem ?

This is not for the 2IS, but it's something you can look into. Have you had any transmission work done recently?

yes, I have. I swapped in a 3GR-FSE. And did the rear main seal at the same time .

If the switch is removed, put it in either park or neutral and insert a small drill bit into the hole and rotate the switch until the bit goes in. Tighten switch in place.

Now place the transmission and interior gear selector in park and Tighten the adjustor on the arm. Inside the car, make sure all gears are selectable and the appropriate light comes on for each gear.

Thank you. It is strange . When I turn the car on from parked position, the lights work fine. Green square lights up for D and I can select the Gears in S mode. Once I drive for at least 10 seconds the Green square for the D turns off and the issue happens again .

How are the engine mounts?
Did you pull the transmission w the engine or no? Remove shift lever?

And it has the same ECU? No changes.

You might just confirm the engine mounts are okay. Basically chock two tires leaving a car length of space fore and aft, firmly set parking brake. Open hood, start it, HOLD brake down HARD, put it in gear and apply some throttle while watching the engine. Does it jump up, move, twist or turn? I doubt this is it, but just make sure the mounts are okay. Repeat in reverse.

Can the motor mounts really be the cause of this issue ? I do feel very slight shaking when car is parked. It’s almost unnoticeable. I will look at motor mounts today.

Engine was removed separately . I had rear main seal done as well. The original ECU and harness was used ( the one from 4GR) .

Side note: i know coolant thermostat needs to be changed which prevents the car from shifting into 6th Gear until car is warm enough. Just wondering if this may cause it as well

Codes : P0128 , P0606 and P0705

Thank you in advance.

None of these cars go into 6th gear until the engine warms just slightly. I think it needs to hit 160/165°F or so. That is normal.

Do you still have the 4GR, can you take the sensor from it?

Read this... It goes back to adjusting the linkage properly likely because the engine and trans moved a small amount from the original location.

Diagnostic trouble code P0705 indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Transmission Control Module (TCM) has received an input error from the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS). This switch is also known as a pressure switch, Park Neutral Position switch (PNP), the gear selection switch, or a PRNDL input switch.
