Default Manual Shifting Mode

I discovered the other day that while manual shifting, lets say you are in 3rd gear, and you want to place the suggested gear into the highest gear (6th gear, or 8th gear) you can push up and hold the shifter in the up position (+) for a few moments, and it will display the highest gear your car will shift to on the display. Then when you are driving, if you downshift (at least this is how it is on my 460) it will go into a gear respective to that of your current speed. I know you can just flip the shifter into normal mode and then back to sport, but I thought I would share.

BTW, I tried holding the down (-) position while sitting at a light to see if it would shift to 1st gear, but that didn't work for me.

Good knowledge. I'll give it a try on my way home.

That is good to know. I am just learning with my 09 since my 01 did not have the manual shift.

I've never gotten a burning smell, and our cars do have rev limiters which assist in the prevention of engine damage, but if you are driving around hitting the rev limiter every gear all day don't expect anything good to come out of it!

I assume this is for non hybrid owners since we have a CVT (though we can simulate gears)

I've never tried, I have a 460, but I guess you can give it a go, it shouldn't hurt anything!

3rd and 4th gear are my favorite, you can have some fun with them without going to jail. 1/2 are also good but too, short of gearing , while being brutal. Man how I love this motor!!!

Default Manual shift

I seem to remember that in manual mode we are not actually shifting but directing the computer. Is that correct?

You are "asking" it to stay in a gear you specify, or any gear below it... If you push the car, it will shift up regardless of what you have it set to, and if you "ask" it to shift lower than it should at the current speed, it will politely greet you with a beeping sound telling you "NOT YET BUDDY."

I have gotten the wheels to chirp, shifting into 1st gear (from second gear) when coming to a stop at a red light, the traction control light actually flashes when you do it, even if TC is turned off...

Hmm, I just tried it today and it didn't work for me. Holding the shifter up or down doesn't display anything for me.

When you are driving in manual mode, and lets say you are in 3rd gear, if you push and hold the shifter in the "+" position (up) the screen that shows what gear you have chosen will jump to (in your case) 8 which is the highest gear from 3 (the gear you had just been in). It may be different on your GS as it isn't US spec, but I will post a video later today to show you what I am talking about just to clarify.
