Default Rear driver door no longer unlocks/locks

I've googled around a bit and it appears that the actuator on the rear driver door lock is dead. I have an '08. The door will not unlock/lock when I press the keys on the fob, when I'm in the car and hit the lock/unlock button on the door panel, or when I unlock/lock the car via the handle. All other door locks work fine. I first noticed the issue when I realized the car wasn't beeping after I locked it, even though I could hear the locks locking even from outside of the car.

Is this a DIY job? I think I read that you have to take the door apart. I'm planning on getting rid of the car at the end of the year, but the lock not working is a PITA because I have 2 kids that I have to get in and out of the car multiple times a day and I have to manually lock/unlock the door by reaching in from the driver door.

Thanks

Actuator failure is not uncommon.
Grab a new one from rockauto. Best I have seen many who tried the ebay Chinese junk ended up buying oem or those from rockauto.
An easy DIY at home. Safety first in your case.

Just a heads up, Rock Auto has started carrying the cheap chinese knock-offs as well. Beware of these brands OE PRO, ULTRA POWER, SKP.
OEM is the best but there are 3 aftermarket brands that are still high quality.
  • Dorman
  • Aisin
  • Standard Motor Products

Good to know.
I hadn't looked lately but did do 2014 Rav4 recently for the same issue. Used the Aisin brand. Roughly $120 per door.
OEM was nearly double IIRC.

the motor that runs the actuators is a $5 DC motor used in RC cars. You can buy the motors on ebay and open the clamshell of the door actuator replace the motor for $5 and have it working again. It appears the same motor is used in other lexus, toyota, mazda, fords. The main thing you have to do is buy the same shaft shape and length.

Good find and someone on the IS-F forum did just that from his $30 flebay purchase as the electronics didn't agree.

A good reason to disable that nonsense of locking/unlocking the doors everytime the vehicle moves/stops, etc.
Yes, the first thing I did with Techstream connected
