Default Reverse lights not working, all other lights work..

As stated, all other lights in the car work, but neither reverse light does, and bulbs are fine. This leads me to believe that it is the reverse switch, but I cannot find any information on where the switch is located, or any wiring diagrams for it. Does anyone have a location for the switch and or wiring diagrams for it?

Do you have Nav? Does the camera show up when you put the car in reverse? I'd look for a fuse before I go tearing into the console to find the reverse switch.

No nav and no rear shade (also relies on reverse switch)... I am not sure of any fuse for only the reverse lights, I do not think that they are on a circuit by themselves, but I would love to find out otherwise.

Pretty certain to be the switch. Usually located right by the gear select lever (under the center console).

There is a switch in the console? I just guessed the backup switch is on the transmission.. is there another switch in the console?

Switch is on the A760 trans.
Just me but with a meter verify the bulbs do in fact have a path ti ground. So basically ohm between an unpainted chassis bolt and one of wires that should be ground. Could be any color but if a black wire exists, its likely the ground.

If you have a 12V test light these work great too as they draw current which a meter doesn't. But now you need to supply 12v.

Also for $15 you get a 48hr pass on the toyota tis website to download schematics and troubleshooting tips. You might start there.

What model and year and transmission would you like?
We are in 2006 - 2013 IS but your profile mentions 1999 GS...

Ok, that is a good idea, and I will check the ground just to make sure, but I failed to mention that also the "R" does not light up on the dash either when in reverse, so either the bulb is coincidentally blown out, or it does not know it is in reverse. Not sure how far down the line that "R" goes.

2008 IS350, automatic. I do own a 99 GS300 as well, guess I need to update my profile to include the IS350.

You may not know the answer but has the trans been replaced?

On every trans with a case mounted switch you **almost always** place the trans in Neutral and insert a small gauge wire or maybe a drill bit through a hole in the switch and it drops in. It is doesnt, loosen the switch, rotate it until it does. Tighten switch and adjust linkage so park, neutral and drive align inside at the console.

Make certain vehicle will not move if you get under it and yank it out of park! It'll run you over!!!

I have tried working on this, but it seems no matter how hard I try, I cannot easily get to the reverse switch on the tranny to test the switch. I think I am really going to have to get it up on a lift to get to it..

On my 2010 RX 350 there is a stand-alone fuse #36, BK/UP 7.5 amps, located in the fuse panel under the hood. A different 10amp fuse operates the other rear and side lights, located in the interior fuse panel below the steering wheel, Tail #22.

The manual does show Fuse #36 is the Backup lights fuse. if the two light do not work, then it could be a fuse, Revere Switch, or the Relay. I have 2012 RX350 and experiencing the same issues. I will have to troubleshoot and find which is causing the problem ! Once I find the fix, I will report to the CLUB !! EJ Dossary, EE

This worked for me after I shorted my backup cam and then my gear indicator disappeared, along with reverse lights and started getting Trac Off warning.
