Default Stupid question re carbon build up

My 08 IS250 is at the dealer for correction of carbon build up among other things. Car has only 48K on it but dealer called me to advise theyre replacing pistons/rings. My question is does water pump have to be removed to do this. My pump is starting to leak and if it has to come off repairing the carbon problem,I want to see if dealer will replace water pump and charge me for only the part. Thanks for help anyone can give

I work at a dealership and idk if they have to remove your pump but I would call and ask because u would definitely save yourself money if they have to move it out the way to do your pistons and rings . I work at a Audi dealer and most the time when the techs have to do piston and rings the engine comes out but again it's a totally different car I would call and ask won't hurt but good luck

Piston change can be done with or without removing engine (much easier with engine out...) and I don't know what Lexus tech are doing, but I suggest you call them and ask since it could save you some big dollars!

If not, water pump is right in front of the engine (not a hard reach). You can do it yourself no problem, it's not a big job if you have a few mechanical knowledge.

I don't believe this is part of the piston replacement recall but they have to take off a heck of a lot of crap anyway so have them do it while they are in there. It'll cost you the part plus about an hour's labor while the have the car torn apart.
