Default my car really stinks....

it rained a lot last night and somewhat flooded... after work i walked to my car and noticed water was right at the sideskirts of my car. i open the door and damn it smells really bad. guess water did get inside and on my carpet.

how do i fix this? do i use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the water? or what?

ps. if my car wasnt slammed, this probably wouldnt have happened.

I would use a shop vac to get the water out, then get that thing dried out as thoroughly as possible. Put a fan on it with the doors open. You want it to dry before any mold or mildew can set up. Probably still going to have some smell though and I'm not sure the best way to get rid of that. Use a carpet cleaner on the carpets and them spray em with Fabreeze? Hate this happened to you. Being slammed is worth it, just gonna have to park on higher ground from now on.. Lol.

Like Slammer said, dry it out first. You will likely have to take it to get professionally cleaned unless you're willing to take out the entire interior carpet. Mildew is very difficult to get out and the smell tends to linger.

I would pull the door sills off and just lift up the sides of the carpet just to make sure no water is hiding underneath.

Definitely dry up as much water as you can...I would rent one of those Rugdoctor's but just for one day

update:

opened up the door sills and used a rag to get the water stuck under the carpet out. the fronts didnt really have any water under the carpet, but the back....there was at about 1 to 2 cups of water under there. i even put some rag under the carpet and pressed down on the top of the carpet. think i got most of the water out.

carpet just feels damp now. most likely gonna do it again tomorrow when the sun is out.

do any of you know if those cleaning cans with brush on the top work?

thanks

They work but you gotta get it DRY first. Put a fan on it, seriously. No point trying to clean and freshen carpet that is still wet. It will still stink.

once you dry it out pour baking soda all over your carpets and just drive around with it like that for awhile, it will help with the smells and stuff. After a week or so go ahead and vacum it out.
