2011 IS250 Scraping Noise Issue
Hi All,
I'm new to the forum so please pardon any rules or etiquette I'm not adhering to. I have a question that I'm hoping for a quick turnaround.
I have a 2011 IS250 and I've been experiencing an issue since about the time I bought the car a year ago: when I drive my car after it's been at rest for a few hours (usually in the morning after being parked overnight), I hear a very noticeable metal-on-metal scraping noise when I am braking for the first minute or so, and then it goes away. It's usually worst when it is wet outside, like raining.
I brought the car to the dealership several times and they couldn't figure it out. This last time I brought it in I thoroughly explained the problem again and they kept it overnight when it was raining and their explanation is that rust builds up on the rotors b/c it is wet outside and the scraping noise is the brake pads scraping away the rust. There is nothing they can do about it.
Does this seem like a reasonable explanation? And if it is, should I make a big deal and try to get them to replace the rotors?
Thanks everyone.

Sounds like a normal characteristic of the IS250. The rotor compound, which is softer, is different than the RX350. Because of the softer compound, in the future when your first/second brake service is due, the rotor may need to be replaced, but that's a whole different story. Anyways, you should try getting an IS250 loaner and the comparison would be more fair.
Unfortunately, that sounds like a common problem in a lot of newer cars (after rain or a wash). My wife's VW does the same thing. It usually stops after you've driven and stopped for about 30 minutes.

I get the same noise and made a thread a few months back that included a video/audio of the "issue"... General census was that it was normal. And I've gotten similar responses from members off other forum who drive various sport cars.
