Figured it out on how to connect it.

Now does anyone know how transfer my phone contacts to the navi? I try searching for contacts with the navi, but obviously I need to do something with the phone to transfer them.

 

You can't. At least not with the iPhone.

You have to enter your contacts in one by one. I put in about twenty numbers that I used the most and gave up on the rest.

I have a 2010 IS and an Iphone 4 and my contacts were automatically imported.

 

2010 and newer models have the 6th gen nav system, which is somewhat less antique than the 5th gen one in the 06-09 models.
