Side Mirror Issue/Reset?

Hey all,

I have an 06 IS250 AWD with the auto dimming and tilting side view mirrors. I am the second owner of the car.

Lately I noticed that when I put the car in reverse and the mirrors tilt down, that the drivers mirror just doesnt go down as far as it used too. i thought i remember it tilting at least 30 degrees down now it tilts maybe 10 degrees down. A few things have changed since I noticed that its at 10 degrees. The passenger mirror seems to be going down far like it used to but my drivers side mirror is the one thats at 10 degrees.

I may be losing my mind a bit but I had my battery removed for about 15-20-ISH minutes doing some work on the car. I've also been fussing around with my seat positions and heights. However both side mirrors will move when I push the up,down, right, left controls on the control pad next to the window switches without any problems.

My question.......is this a setting that a dealership sets like some other personalized settings? or is this something i can change myself? Is this something that just needs to be reset like the window switches when you remove the battery? any help/guidance would be great.

I just started having this problem this week as well (driver side only). Looks like it is trying, and occasionally gets stuck...
I was just thinking you could pull the glass to clean and lubricate the mechanism behind it?

Guess it is time to go search for a DIY on mirror removal to see it it is that simple?

Slightly off topic but after both my mirrors tilt back, they don't fully go back to the original position I set. Anyone else?

clevername - thats the thing. when i try and use them normally without the tilt there is no sticking. and the tilt down function to me anyway seems like an issue with the personalized settings because the mirror control pad works and i doubt there are separate mechinisms that work only for the tilt down in reverse.

istarzan - mine did that a handful of times and i just hit my personalized setting again and it fixes it. odd tho.

THIS is the problem I've been having. The dealership thinks I'm crazy. It's CPO, so it'd be covered, but they don't see the issue and can't replicate it. But when I put the car in reverse and the mirrors tilt down then I put it in drive again and they tilt back up, they don't return to where they were before. They return to a position slightly lower. So if I do this a few times, the mirrors end up pointing down in drive, and I have to adjust them.

Anyone have this issue or know a fix?

I found a temporary fix. You move the mirror all the way up until it clicks. Then set it back to pre reverse position. The next time you reverse, it will move back to the correct position in drive. I think the plastic spiral screw that moves the mirror is wearing out.

i ended up removing the mirror and separate the housing itself. turns out a ton of grit and dirt was coating a few of the mechanical pins. cleaned up with wd40 and added some new grease. problem fixed.
