So I just had the tsib done for the startup rattle not even 2 months ago. My dealer knew exactly what the problem was and I haven't heard the "startup" rattle since. However as I was leaving for work the other morning I had the radio off, (which doesn't happen often) my window down and noticed my car making almost the exact same engine rattle sound now at around 2,000 rpm! It only happens when the engine is very cold (or for about the first 2 mins of the car being on) and then disappears.

Seriously?! I thought this was a Lexus but I've had more little irritating problems with it then the BMW I use to own. I also spent more money on the 2008 because I figured it would have fewer problems than the 06-07. Looks like I'll have to make my 6th trip to my dealer for warranty work since I bought the car in Feb.

Has anyone else experienced this? I did a search but only came up w/ stuff in regards to the startup rattle.

It's not the startup rattle. I'm talking about a rattle after startup when you're actually driving the car... I already had the start up rattle fixed and now its doing the "driving" rattle.

 

Mine doesn't rattle it actually shakes the whole flipping car. A 1 second shutter occurs after I come to a stop rather hastly. It's the only time it happens when I brake to a stop light after I've been going 45mph+

 

So I got a call from the dealer and they were able to locate this new rattle... I guess it's the heat shield on one of the exhaust pipes? My regular SA is off on Mondays and the fill-in didn't do a very good job explaining but they ordered the part to replace.

Just an FYI for anyone who exp the same thing.

I'm surprised a heat shield would cause that same kind of sound. Thanks for the info.

 

Ya to be more specific its the right exhaust manifold's heat shield and since they can't just replace the heat sheild they're replacing the entire right exhaust manifold. Ugh! I'm just scared all of these replacement parts (ie breaking the seal from the originals) are going to cause me problems as the car ages.

 

i have a similar rattle sound.. from the front side of my engine.. going in to get it checked out...

it rattles continuously and permanently when the car is on,.

If you drive a 250, your problem sounds more like carbon buildup
