question about floor jack
Today i finished changing the oil and filter of my is250. It was a pain in the a$$ because i had to use the cars jack ( the one that in the trunk of the car) to lift the car high enough so i can slide my "low profile" floor jack under the car. The floor jack wasnt long enough to reach the jacking point of the car which is located in front of the oil pan. My question is, is there a better method of doing this? All the other cars i worked on has the jacking point under the radiator or around there. Thanks for your reply.

go to walmart, buy 2 rhino ramps.
then you can just drive up on them no need for jack.
if you ever do need to jack it further, you'd just drive up on the ramps, then use your floor jack on the lifting point before the pan.
i never trusted the car's jack for more than quick wheel change if absolutely had nothing else to use...

Here's what I use...
You build a cheap lil wood ramp
Get 2 pieces of wood that are a foot long
Get 2 pieces that are 2 feet long
Get 2 pieces that are 3 feet
Nail them down on top of each other so that it gradually builds up like a staircase
Super easy to drive up on... and if your car is lowered, I guess you can try a 4th piece of wood
When your on the top piece, use a floor jack

Thanks for the replies and good ideas. I do have a ramp but it is meant for trucks and raises the car almost 2 feet in the air. I might try the wood method as i have some laying around. How thick was the wood?

I use the same type of floor jack.
Idunno what jack point ure referring to, but i just jack it up by the frame, that bar right in the middle of the tires.
works fine everytime, no weird noises or scrapes
