Default Down shifting problem

When slowing down between 40 and 50mph my car sometimes hesitates to down shift properly. The rpms shoot up to 3 and the cars pulls back. Doesnt happen all the time but something I notice now and then. I bought the car used with 27k miles. Is this a symptom of a transmission slipping? Should I be concerned of this getting worse? I dont beat on the car and drive it smooth.

My guess is you have have it in ect power on when this happens. If thats the case, its normal.

I have noticed this too, but only when the ECT power is enabled.

This happened to me once on my 350, I was driving aggressively at the time. I let off the gas as I approached a slight downhill descend. The car shifted from 6th gear to 5th. After the initial pull back from the gear change, the car started gaining speed as I was going downhill. (~75mph)

I figured the ECU was adapting to my driving mood, the car felt incredibily aggressive.

Nothing was disabled, and the car was not in power mode.

The car's auto down shifting from 5-4-3 sucks if your driving habit is a bit on the aggressive side (moderate acceleration, sudden braking etc).

If I am going about 55 - 60 and I am braking down to about 30 - 40 for a jug handle turn off the road, I usually hit the brakes so the car drops down to 40 fast, downshift from 5 to 4 myself while blipping the throttle, then keep braking down to 30 and the car will be silky smooth since the transmission tends to hang in neutral for a second when you are braking.

I checked...does the same for me...I drive ECT Power mode all the time.
I think it is the computer blipping the throttle for the downshift.
