Default Radar Hardwiring through mirror

Any installers for radar detector mounting though the rear view mirror? With either one of these parts:

http://www.stealthcords.com/shop/pro...cat=279&page=1

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/ESCORT-Radar-950...item5183acf2c0

Thanks!

I'd just go with which ever one is cheaper. It's essentially just a phone cord with 2 wires connected to probes you can use to tap power. From the two options you listed the ebay one is a winner because it's cheaper and has a fuse for extra protection.

I've been using a homemade one from a phone cord with no issues.

Why do you need one of those cords? All you do is cut the cig. Adapter off the original cord. Splice those wires and tap into power through the sunroof wires. I'm not to sure what your talking about as far as the mirror goes. But that's the way my dad has always hardwired his and my radar detectors.

you don't even need to do that; you can tap into the wires that power the rear view mirror.

again, read-up on the hard-wiring DIY guide.

to the OP: if you were local, i can offer to help you with your hardwiring.

all these opinions. i heard that if i don't turn off and on the detector manually, it would send crazy fuses all into the detector on engine start up and sometimes cause the detector to break. is this true? i have been doing it to my whistler xtr-550 all this time and its been fine? any way of prevention? will this tapping into the mirror hardwiring save the detector?

if it comes with a fuse built in, i shouldn't have any porblems correct? the second link i had (ebay) has a built in fuse. so that would prevent any errors and shouldn't cause my detector to break? correct?

o okay. so you dont have a fuse but still leave it on, and the car startup doesnt **** with the detector? so if i buy the one with the fuse, i should have no problem at all, im safe? sorry, dont know much about this. thanks.

these radar detectors don't use that much power, and w/ the hardwiring method won't blow any fuses or mess up the radar detector itself - unless you have the wiring FUBAR'd.

on a tangent, these radar detectors are relatively high-tech and durable enough that you wouldn't be able to really do any damage unless you expose it to extreme forces (pressure, temperature, electrical, etc.).
