Water will get between the panel and the deck lid but that's not a big deal. It gets wet behind there anyway when you wash the car or it rains. Water will not leak into the trunk.
Any issue you think in areas with freezing? In Wisconsin I would hate to get water in there in the late fall/winter car-washes and have it freeze, expand and start destroying from the inside out
