Default Valve/injection noise?

I've had my car for about three months now and everything is going great except... The engine is noisy at idle. It sounds like the valves tapping. I've had several people say my engine sounds funny. I took it in for it's 1000 mile once over at the dealer and they made no mention of the noise nor did I ask them about it.

Is it the direct injection that makes it sound so tappy?

Yup, its because of the DI. Nothing to worry about. But there are lots of threads on this topic and did like a 10 sec search came up with this https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...d-at-idle.html

A fast diesel (if it's a 3.5L).

There's an old DSM(Mitsubishi) trick to quiet the lifters...buy a quart of rislone and sub it for one of your quarts of oil...it will quiet the lifters from ticking. Used in my 2g turbo eclipse and both my Evo's...and now i use it in my is350.

Hope it helps!

^^nothing to do with the lifters.... its the direct fuel injectors that's making the ticking noise.

welcome to the direct injection surprise club. You and many of us with the 3.5 l motor are kind of alarmed when we first get the car and we drive it for the first week. I remeber the first time I heard after getting my 3GS I thought something serious was wrong with the car. I then checked the forum and saw that it was a very common issue

The injectors have approx 750-800psi at idle and approx. 1200-1400psi at full throttle,so there is no way to quiet them down

Are they usually reliable? I do like the horsepower and fuel efficiency.
