sorry guys I don't have an IS, I have an LS, but I was hoping to get some of your expertise on a set up I'm attempting.
Do you think I will be able to get away with just a fender roll or shave? I really DO NOT want to get into any fender mods, like pulling or cutting of any kind.
Rear has at least a full inch of poke, front a little less, but these photos are taken with the suspension on a jack, a few inches higher then stock, so it should tuck in somewhat when the car is at ride height.
Also I will be lowering the car on tanabe lowering springs, which should help a little more (or make it worse lol)
I'm in the process of refinishing these wheels now, so I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and try to relip them or continue as is

You can definitely get your fenders rolled and pulled to correct that. Depends who you go to and how well they can get it done. And lowering the car SHOULD help get rid of some poke, as the wheels will camber in a little but it's not gonna be anything drastic. I personally like how it looks!
Just wondering why many opt for 19s. is it just a matter of preference or is there more issues with 20s?
it is a matter of preference, but it does look more proportional than 20s which look HUGE (in my opinion).
the IS is as small as a civic so imagine putting dubs on one...

ok. Thats what i figured but thought id ask. To your point, Im wanting 20s because of cost of tires! Ive narrowed it down to this:
F: 20x9.5 , 225/30
R: 20x10.5 , 245/30..maybe 255
ill be happy with offset range for both between +15 to +20
20's look too big IMO. plus you have to run thinner tires with 20's vs 19's. HTX has terrible roads, so running rubber bands isn't a smart idea.
makes sense. Road condition is a huge factor. However is there a big real life difference between 30 side wall on 20 and 35 side wall on 19? Per tiresize.com, sidewall on 19 is ~17% bigger, but it doesnt take into consideration the stretch on a 10.5 wheel. And i dont know what 17% translates to in real life.
finally said **** it and just went with squared set up because i want to run these on my wrx too but
18x10 +15 all around. friggin love the poke fitment. that was my original goal! I rub hella up front with no fender mods. and rolled my rears and rub a **** ton on hard bumps. just need an aligment to max out OEM camber... i'll probably go with the megans camber arm kits all around eventually but for now I'll just run this set up until i go static jap low.

^nice, but to your comment the IS does not have factory camber adjustment. you will need those megan (or other aftermarket) camber arms to adjust and add more negative.
Getting new wheels soon on a 2008 IS350 which is lowered on H&R springs
Wheels are 19 x 9.5 squared (+35)
Need the widest tire in the front and rear.
Currently leaning towards 235/35 and 275/30. I understand the rear might need a fender roll which is fine by me but not sure if 235/35 is the widest possible. Can I get away with 245/35 in the front?
Also is a 285/30 possible in the rear with extensive fender alterations? Has anyone tried 285's in the rear?

Ended up with a 19 x 9.5 squared setup. 2008 IS350
Front - Slight rubbing on fender liner if going around a corner really quickly. Otherwise no rubs if driving conservatively
Tire: 235/35 (stretched look) Offset: +27 (had to add an 10mm spacer to clear the calipers)
Rear - Slight rubbing on fender liner if going over big dips in the road at speed or if carrying any heavy luggage in the back or passengers.
Tire: 285/30 (wheel bulge is not too bad. I actually like it. Makes the rear look wide and aggressive. The following image illustrates my point) Offset: +35
