Default Taking off engine covers

Do you guys take them all off or leave it as it is? I have some of those plastic retaining rings/nylon screws or whatever you call it and it's loose. It's the one that holds the plastic cover down. So cheap.

I took off the front cover to play with the lights, but plan to put it back on tonight.

I would reccomend leaving it on, it reduces debris and dust getting on the engine parts. Reduces risk of anything hit belt. Plus it looks much nicer. Some CL members have gone as far as custom painting them.

i gotta say the IS engines are messy so leave it on. the clips are just pieces of plastic you can order them through your dealer. you can also go to l-tunedparts.com and search the OEM parts and see if they have the part you're looking for (though shipping might add to the costs).

also, the extra cover would definately keep the engine compartment cleaner and safer so why not leave it on?

i agree, leave it on. It keeps the engine and other compartments clean. not to mention it does minimize the engine noise and it looks nice.

I have to say, I wasn't impressed with the way IS250 engine looked as well. Personal opinion of course.

had mine off since 5/06 first oil change and HID upgrade time for me. Friend did for me, but we broke the plugs.
no issues though

but, if i had good plastic plugs I would have been had it back on because it looks better. Dealer wanted too much for new plugs as I requested them. Really I had forgot as I never go under hood.

yea i agree with everyone else too, leave them on. plus, with the covers off, the engine doesnt look too appealing to the eye....wires and such are spread everywhere. looks too messy

Mine have been off since I installed my coilovers six months ago, didn't notice anymore noise at all. I actually threw them out because I knew I would never use them again. They only get in the way when I want to adjust my coilovers or change my oil.

Mine is off and will stay off. To many reasons why not to keep it on such as engine cooling. We hashed this one out a few months ago, people have strong opinions. Do what you want. If I get an IS-F (which is back on track), I will take the covers off. Only real purpose of the cover is to make it purdy. The top peice is sitting above my head on my computer desk as I type.

Actually, this is exactly how i have it too. No issues whatsoever. That plastic is now in storage under alot of stuff. Prolly could not find it now.

AND...I get a few more ponies from the better airflow. jk
