Red face Nav Hack disabled "Picture" button for DVDs?

I just performed the nav hack -- in fact, my car is still in pieces -- but I am unable to play DVDs. The parking brake light is always on, so the red wire appears to be grounded properly. I twisted the white (with silver band from P1) and pink (from J50) wires together after stripping them a little and put some electrical tape around them.

Everything seems to be working fine, but when I put a DVD into the DVD player, it plays the audio, but does not play the video. When I click the "Audio" button, I can select the video playback settings (wide, normal, etc.), but the "Picture" button is grayed out.

Please help! I have to take a long road trip in 4 hours and I'd really like my fiance to be able to watch movies.

Thanks.

First of all, the Nav Hack thread neglected to mention that the Parking brake wire must be cut and you must ground the end going towards the HU. The end going twds the dash must be capped off.

Anyone have any thoughts? Please help! :-)

By the way, it's a 2006 IS350 with ML DVD 5.1.

I cut the red wire (e-brake) and grounded the side COMING FROM the car (as opposed to the one COMING OUT of the connector for the Nav system). Is that correct, or did I reverse it?

Thanks for your quick response. :-)

Ok, I figured it out actually. For anyone that experiences the same problem, the issue was that you are supposed to ground the red wire that goes into the connector, not the red wire coming from the car.

In my case, I grounded the red wire for both the car and the Nav system. I always show my parking brake as on -- that may be a side effect of grounding the "wrong side" (the wire that came from inside the dash or what I've been calling the wire "coming from the car").

I think I'll just leave it this way for myself although I'm not sure if I'll have to replace the light bulbs in the driver dash more often because of e-brake-light burnout.

Anyway, best of luck to everyone. Very happy with the results of the mod in the end!

Thanks for your help.

You should only ground the end going towards the Head Unit. Not the end to the car. You should fix this.

I still think this mod isnt worth it, cause if your NAV goes bad and they find you hacked it there goes $5k out the door.

You're right... I have to fix it. Whenever I drive the e-brake parking warning sounds. Sigh... time to take it all apart again!
