Well said and very accurate. I second your statement. In a couple of years, our kids will be driving and the 08 IS350 will be their car during high school. As parents, it is comforting knowing that they will be driving a reliable car that has modern safety features. Cars can be replaced, kids can not. A new or newer car does not "spoil" a child, it all depends on how the child is raised.
With all due respect, if you think 300hp = "safe", you've forgotten what it's like to be 16. Even an IS250 is overpowered compared to what most of us 30-somethings started out with, and we even managed to get into trouble with those.
If I buy my kid a new car when he turns 16, it will be safe and SLOW. I want to give him every possible opportunity to come home alive, and I think the IS350 is a car more suited to someone with a few years worth of driving experience.

I don't think DropTopGal was talking about the IS250 vs. IS350 since they both have the same safety features. She was talking about getting a crappy/old car for the kids vs. a newer/safer car such as the IS.
I'd definitely buy my kid the IS250 AWD if I had one.
The only reason I could think of why I wouldn't want Lexus to make a 250 is to keep the price a little bit higher so that the car doesn't become the next 32x BMW or A4. Once again the popularity of this car hit me on my one mile drive to work this evening. I saw the grey one, and two red ones which were supposedly rare. The car is losing its uniqueness which I'll admit was part of its appeal to me.
