Default Auto headlight won't turn off?

I press ignition button twice without starting the car, lights on "auto" and HID turns on, then I press ignition again to turn off the car and back to radio. HID still on and I waited couple of minutes already... or not waited long enough? normally if I exit the car they turn off in 30 seconds.

Try pressing the lock button two times on your remote...?

I believe the door has to be opened to start the timer.

i have had issues with my headlights not turning off when tinkering around... i have never taken the time to pinpoint the reason behind the lights staying on.

if anyone knows the specific process/series of events that prevents the auto-turn off from working, please share!

i think the last time it happened, i turned on the acc switch to eject a cd, then turned the car off and locked via keyfob.

even though i pressed the lock key twice, the lights didnt turn off. i thought, no big deal they will turn off automatically.

3 hours later, i get a call from my neighbor.

I think the original poster is referring to what happens if you turn off the car and don't get out. (For example, you drop your passenger at the door of the supermarket to pick up a few items, then pull into a nearby space and stay in the car to wait for them)

My lights always turn off when I get out of the car, but stay on if I remain in the car. It never occurred to me to try what IS350jet suggested; perhaps opening and closing my door would start the timer.

I don't understand, the auto mode should be smart enough to turn the car off me and avoid draining the battery.. it's vrey confusing and I cannot trust it to turn off. Like last time, I simply went home and opened the trunk to get my groceries, and I obviously triggered the lights to be forever on because it didn't turn off for minutes and I went to turn it off myself.

I was in a lighted garage as well, but I understand light sensors do not respond well to fluorescent lighting.

I read leaving on auto cause too many unneccessary firing up of HIDs and is bad anyway, maybe manually using them is the way to go.. but i was looking forward to this luxary feature..

If the key fob is still inside the car after you turn off your engine, the headlights will not turn off. You have to leave the car with the key fob.

If you leave your Headlights in the "Auto" Position,

The Drivers door switch needs to be triggered in order for your lights to Auto Turn Off ...

If you turn your car On & Off and do not exit, they will always remain On.

It will not work if any other door/trunk is opened or closed.... and drivers door is never opened.

Jz

P.S. - If you are Un-loading groceries after you exit your drivers door... The lights will Auto turn off 30 secs after you close your trunk..

You beat me to it. That is correct, I locked my doors using the button on the drivers door, and opened the trunk and they didnt turn off right away, until I closed my trunk. They turned off 30 seconds later.
