Paper, believe it or not, is one of the best materials for reproducing sound. Of course, the modern improvements reinforce it with fibers of sort to stiffen it. The stiffer the material, the more neutral sound it will reproduce.

yeah i was gonna say if you wanted you can take out the stock sub and cut metal and build a box underneath it (roof of the trunk) and put a little 8 in there to get the sound that you want....but even that is a pain in the *** and you wont get the output that you want.So just get a stand alone sub and enclosure and make it simple.less time,less work,nice output.

It all depends upon what kind of Bass you are looking for. Big boomy and filling all the holes in the music or tight punchy. Typically free air are the former and tight enclosed ones the latter.

blew my sub recently. do you think replacing it myself is a relatively simple task? dealer = $800 (including sub). anyone have DIY?

It's not too bad, I sent you a PM if you want my oem sub. I can also walk you through the process, I just took mine out today.

has anyone ever tried this Pioneer 8" shallow mount sub? mounting depth is about 2.5"
