Noises, noises, noises!! I have an 07 and have the same problem. I have taken it 5 times and still no fix. And it's true the noise is more noticable when it is cold after you drive a while, which I have to do in order to get to the dealer. It goes away and you can barely notice it. This along with the perfect roads that are around Tustin Lexus makes it almost impossible to hear the sound when I ride with the technician. Mine sounds like it is coming from either the middle panel where the stereo is at or the front speaker grill right under the dash....
I'm going to take it to Glendale Lexus and if it's not solved by this time (The 6th time ) I think i'm going to have to call Lexus directly.
Everything else about the car is
I had the same rattle in the center of the dashboard just behind the center speaker grill near the windshield. It was most noticable when going over rough, patched road or over railroad tracks. I just had my 10,000 mile service, and a technician rode with me and heard the rattle. When I picked the car up at the end of the day the rattle was gone and has not returned. I am not sure exactly what he did, but it seems to be fixed.
I have the same rattle; if anyone knows how to fix it that would be great
The technician who fixed mine said it was not the speaker grill itself but was the dashboard behind the grill. My guess is that he used some foam insulation underneath the dashboard.

I really got to hear yesterday since it was about 47 degrees (That's cold in L.A !!!) Do you also have an 07? Also, do you know if he performed the TSB that's out there regarding the windshield? I thought that the 07 would already have that TSB applied. Am I wrong?

Does that mean he'll have to remove the whole dashboard?

Mine's an 06. I don't know about the TSB regarding the windshield. The NHTSA website only shows 5 TSBs but none of them is about the windshield.

I don't believe he took out the dashboard. They had the car ready after 4 hours, and I don't think the 10,000 mile service and the rattle fix could have been done in that time if he removed and replaced the dashboard. Also there is no evidence of any misalignment, additional rattles, or other problems that I would expect with a dashboard removal.

That's good !! Is there any more detail you can give about what he did? I want to go as prepared as I can next Saturday when I take my car in to help fix the problem and I really don't want them to take the dash appart if it's not needed. Thanks for the info !!!!

My bill states that they "insulated clips in speaker grill in center console." The noise, of course, is on the top of the dashboard and not the center console. When I talked with the service adviser afterward, he indicated that the job was more than just insulating a few clips. The technicial who rode with me said that under that area of the dashboard there is basically some open space. I expect he filled that space with foam insulation. Whatever he did, however, has stopped the rattle.
Below is a post by "caymandive" on another thread on this same subject a little earlier this year. Maybe your service adviser should talk to mine if they are unable to fix your rattle!
"Dec 1 2006 Dash noise fixed
Well I just got my car back after letting the dealer have it all week to fix a rattle type noise coming from the center dash when going over bumps. So far so good and I guess the real test will be tomorrow when it gets much colder than today. (It's 75 degrees here in N.VA!)
So basically the fix was: 550351
"INSULATED THE AC VENTS & VENTS & MOUNTING & ALL DASH MOUNT BODY CLIPS""
I just took my 07 IS350 in for the same thing. If i pressed on the dash right above the Nav or pressed on the vents above the Nav I could make it squeak and rattle. They pulled the vents and did some felt stuff and now it's perfect. no more squeak.

Good. It looks like more and more dealers are figuring out how to solve this problem.
Just take the side cover off first, and once you have unfettered access to the vent, just pull it straight out (forcefully, but carefully). Something you guys also might want to watch out for are the tabs that hold the door panel on. I eliminated another creak when I discovered that the tab located closest to the rear view mirror on the driver's door panel wasn't properly engaged in the hole - it was squished flat, making the door panel protrude out and rub up against the dashboard. I've NEVER taken this panel off, so it came from the factory like that. I used a flathead screwdriver to guide the tab into place, and the panel sat properly, eliminating the creak.

Yeah I had mine fixed back in December and so far the noise hasn't come back.

Awesome, thx! Prior to the fix, did you notice a creaking sound near the driver's side air vent?
There is a TSB for the early models and it does require removing the entire dash. Apparently it isn't as difficult as some other cars I've worked on (just removing the dash is a four hour exercise). From what I gathered in the TSB, they can expect to have the dash out in less than an hour.
AFA fixing the noise, the TSB just says to put felt pads on the mounting points between the dash and the firewall. It has nothing to do with the windshield, but the mounts are just below where the windshield meets the body.
