If I put that panel back in, and push on it, it makes a squeeking noise.. Thanks to TorontoIS for pointing this out.
I'm glad it worked for you. When I picked up my car the tray/shelf in the glovebox wasn't properly installed and it worked itself out of place and was making noise. After installing that properly in its slots I thought I had the problem licked. Then I noticed a different noise which I assumed was from the dash, the one that has a TSB. However, in poking around the glovebox I noticed that pressing that panel at the back made a loud creaking/rattling noise. I lifted up on it taking it out of place and reinstalled it properly. Pressing on it then cause absolutely no noise at all. Driving over bumps now really is a non issue for noise because there is now no noise. I'm glad that the car is quiet again.

Should I remove it and put it back on with some electrical tape around it by hoping that it will make it fit tighter so that it doesn't squeak anymore?
if its something that is persistant, take it to the dealer. go for a test drive then tell them you want the car back squeek free.

I have the same rattling coming from, what seems to be, the NAV unit. Although with mine it is only really noticable when the car is cold, as it warms up the rattle goes away.

I have the same rattle on the driver side air vent.. I'm going to have to try this. How did you take it out? Is it just clipped on? Thanks a lot

Just take the side cover off first, and once you have unfettered access to the vent, just pull it straight out (forcefully, but carefully). Something you guys also might want to watch out for are the tabs that hold the door panel on. I eliminated another creak when I discovered that the tab located closest to the rear view mirror on the driver's door panel wasn't properly engaged in the hole - it was squished flat, making the door panel protrude out and rub up against the dashboard. I've NEVER taken this panel off, so it came from the factory like that. I used a flathead screwdriver to guide the tab into place, and the panel sat properly, eliminating the creak.

Thanks alot Javy! Will have to try this as soon as my girlfriend gets home because it is annoying me so much. I'm also getting one from somewhere in the instrument panel. At first I thought it was the speaker area up top, but now I am unsure. Or maybe it's multiple areas. :Shrugs:

Noises, noises, noises!! I have an 07 and have the same problem. I have taken it 5 times and still no fix. And it's true the noise is more noticable when it is cold after you drive a while, which I have to do in order to get to the dealer. It goes away and you can barely notice it. This along with the perfect roads that are around Tustin Lexus makes it almost impossible to hear the sound when I ride with the technician. Mine sounds like it is coming from either the middle panel where the stereo is at or the front speaker grill right under the dash....

I'm going to take it to Glendale Lexus and if it's not solved by this time (The 6th time ) I think i'm going to have to call Lexus directly.

So why do you care then? Is the noise that loud that you are that bothered for the few minutes it takes to go away? Not being hostile, just curious...

Rattles and stuff drive me crazy, so when my driver's side chair started having a creaking noise, I was pissed. A $40k+ car having rattles? Come on... Anyway the first time I took it in, they said a motor in the seat was crooked and they set it straight. But the noise was still there, and I had to take it in a second time.

I don't remember exactly what it was, but they said a plastic molding on the side of the seat was, uh, morphed or whatever, so they fixed it too. So with those creaking noises out of the way, I hear the one in the glove box one, so I'm gonna try to fix later today.

But I also have a rattle over certain types of roads coming from what seemed like the nav unit. After a couple trips over kinda-rough roads though, I'm convinced it's coming from under the center speaker. I have only 6500~ miles now, but it's usually not too bad, so I might wait until the 10k service.

I would love to get this out of the way myself if it's easy though.. anyone?

Actually it is still very noticable when it is warm. I probably should have rephrased what I said on my earlier post. Trust me I know that if you guys had this noise you would definetely notice it and would be bothered by it. I was just saying that when it is early in the morning it is very loud compared to how it is after you drive for a while.

Who would you guys recommend: Longo or Glendale Lexus. I already have an appt setup for 01/06/07 since I can't be without a car and needed a loaner car. I dont' know why Longo is like that. At Tustin Lexus you just drive up leave your car, if it needs to be there longer than 1 hr they give you a loaner car.

Finding rattles are VERY tough sometimes... And with each one you remove, the car becomes quieter, making it easier to hear the other rattles that aren't as loud

And now my wife things I have sharp ears... should show this posts to her.. n you are absolutely right.. I cannot expect this from a car that is worth over $40K and on top of it ... it's a Lexus..

I had the similar issues with my ES330 .. and they fixed it all... hopefully... it does not come back..

Like I said, I can live with it... for now... No long road trips yet. Well it's only obvious over some roads... and today I went over the SAME roads and it's not as loud, actually rarely happening. Yeah rattles are a pain in the ***, so I'll wait until the 10k service. Since they charge a buttload of cash anyway, might as well have them find that damn rattle.

Keep us posted, I've got the same problem. Will tackle it if you also have success.

Hi, some more about noises in the IS... the early IS series made a noise like a stone hitting the car. The noise came from the dashboard.

The solution for this problem is known by the Lexus dealers, the problem seems to be the construction of the heating behind the dashboard. The hard plastic makes loud noises on the metal. The dealer can fix it by putting small rubber pieces between the plastic and metal.
