Default Engine Oil Quantity?

I just changed my engine oil and filter this weekend. I only put in 6qt and oil level is staying in between the marks. I driven it about 4 times and checked the level, and level is still the same. Is this normal? I read somewhere that it will take about 6.8qt, remind you that I had the front of the car on rhino ramps.

The specs show 6.6 w/filter. Sounds like maybe you didn't drain all of the old oil.

If you fill it to the top bubble it will add another 1/2 quart.

as mentioned above, you might not have completely drained out all the old oil. i think the manual says 6.6qts.

I also use Rhino ramps, but I perform the change on a slightly downward sloping section of asphalt such that the car is level when it's on the ramps.

Car took just over 6.5 quarts to bring it to the "full" mark.

It's 6.7 qts for a standard oil/filter change (although anyone who happens to jack up the side of the car opposite the drain plug to really empty the pan will notice that it takes nearly 7 qts to get back up to the high mark on the dipstick).

One of the cheap tricks on sprint racing bikes is to run the oil just above the low mark when hot. It reduces crank windage. If I intended to dyno my car, I would definitely run the oil intentionally at the low mark if I wanted best numbers.

No, I'm not. It works. It's just one of the things Toyota got busted for doing with their dyno numbers before the requirement to use the SAE standard.

I agree Kerney Mesa put so much oil in my car (10K service) It was about 1/4 of an inch over the max. I drained about a quart out to get it to the top mark ! Next time I'm changing my own oil .

I'm starting to think that dealers have the least qualified person to do the oil changes, since the techs might be busy with something more important.
