Default New tires

What size is a better alternative to the OEM rear tire size : 255/35R18 or 255/45R18? I already have a pair of new tires for the fronts but they don't make them in 255/40R18 for the backs.

i would go 255-35-18, it would look less bloated then the OEM rear, i like low profile tires, and to me 255/40 is not that low, compared to the fronts. YES i know its staggered, but they should look proportanate for the side walls. IMO

Would be better sidewall protection for the rims. Not as low profile, but a bit more rubber between wheel edge and road.

Neither is a good choice; I would test it and see if it works. The service manual is very clear about the staggering being very important for VDIM/VSC/ABS. Arbitrarily changing it this way may upset the electronic nannies.

I agree, lobuxracer is correct. The overall wheel diameter should stay the same as factory. I would rethink the front tire choice and return/exchange them if you can.

Can't exchange them. I bought them for my WRX before I sold it so they have been sitting around a while. They retail at $250 for both so I don't want to eat $250 and buy new fronts. They would still be staggered if I used 255/35 or 255/45 ... just not the exact same stagger as stock.
