Default tinting question

i was just wondering what that chemical tinters use to put the tint on the window? is it just water that they spray on? is it a soap and water solution? i'm wondering because the tinter i went to was letting that spray just drip down the door panel area. i thought they would cover up the door panel but this person didn't. is that normal?

and those that got your IS tinted, do you know if your tinter took the door panels out to put your tint on or were they able to do it without removing the door panel?

The solution is water with a little bit of dishwashing soap added.

Most experienced tinters can tint the window without removing the door panel. However I removed my door panels and rear deck/C-pillars for my tinter (15 years of tinting experience) and he was very appreciative of it. It made his job much easier.

The place where I had my windows tinted did not remove the door panels. They had some "special" tool to get behind the tweeters in the front.

yeah and that "special" tool that my tinter used caused scratches on my tint. but whats troubling is there are scratches on every window so not sure what the hell he was doing. he won't give me a refund and i was going to take it elsewhere to get redone, but he insisted on correcting the problem but also said he would need to pop the door panel in order to get it better. but i'm a bit skeptical.

what about the solution they spray on to the tint to put it on? do you guys know if they cover your door panel while doing it or just let it all drip down? because mine didn't cover my doors, but seemed to have wiped it down clean. although the windows were really dirty because he used a wet towel to wipe it down and there were a lot of streaks. oh, and he sliced up the rubber molding on the rear small window. damn it.

Default Tinting solution

I just had my windows tinted last week on my 250 - I asked what they used and what was best to clean and they told me they use water with a little baby shampoo and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Seems like an odd receipt but they look good and clean.

I got mine done without taking the door panels out too. Its a pretty easy install....

Interesting. My Tinter said to take over-the-counter windex (not the industrial strength stuff used by janitorial/cleaning services) and dilute it 50% with plain water. I made a batch and use it for both the interior and exterior window surfaces . . .

I was told never to use windex or amonia based cleaners. They tend to break down the tint causing the tint to turn purple.

my tint guy said to specifically not use windex or any other ammonia-based cleaner. Invisible glass is great for me
