Default disabling drl

is there a way to disable the daytime running lights on the is250? i have asked dealers and they said they can not do it, another dealer stated they would have to cut the wire to the hi-beam light in general, therefore making my hi-beams not working, does anyone know if this is true or is there really a way to disable them with no affects, thanks.

You've been dealing with either mis-informed or just plain lazy dealerships.. It takes them
5 mins to do.. No cutting , they just hook up your car to this little computer and turn it off
that way..They did mine in 5 mins.. Do a search and you'll find directions you can print out
and then bring to the dealer..

I think that some dealerships won't do it because their lazy. It there was a safety concern than why did the 05 ES330 I had as a loaner last week have a DRL off switch on the stack?

Not a safety feature, as many people would like to believe. There's no proof that DRLs do anything to improve daytime visibility of oncoming cars.

I would find a different dealer. Like others have said, they can be turned off. My dealer did it, no questions asked.

Being able to prove that there are benefits to daytime running lights doesn't qualify something as a safety feature or not. If the air bag never saved another person again, it would still be a safety feature. The fact of the matter is DRLs by definition are intended as a safety feature, whether they are effective or not, is debatable.

OTOH, to me DRLs are like the nav hack. Not intended to be disabled on this particular car model; however, if you can find a way...more power to you. I don't think it makes you a more dangerous person and if you get into an accident, I don't think your insurance company will dock you because you had your drl's disabled....to me, drl off and nav hack on, amounts to about 0.005% trouble on the road with 95% of the problems on the road due to inattentive driving, sleepy drivers, large [speeding] trucks, drunk driving, and teen/elderly inexperienced/impaired drivers. Not a car driving with it's drl's off or a car driving with a hacked nav.

Sorry for getting off topic.

ask the service tech to do it for you when you get your lps settings set. print out the instructions that you can find around here just in case he says that he doesn't know how to do it.

It's easy to prove that the airbag actually makes the car more safe for its occupants. The DRLs on the other hand...was a movement started by people with a large monetary interest in replacement bulb companies. There's no way to prove that DRLs do anything to increase safety, which is why I choose to not utilize them.

I've been that route with SaMo Lexus......no dice. First they said it was a state law. When I told him that was BS, he then said it was a "corporate directive". I pleaded to no avail. I need to find another place in SoCal. Any ideas?

yeah i'm well aware of the whole stupid argument. drl's are still a safety feature, proof or no proof.

Perhaps in your mind they are. I won't fault you for taking that stand.

ya know, I was going to have them turned off but lately I've been noticing something. people on the toll road tend to move out of my way faster than they did in my G. I'm guessing its because they notice the car more with drl than a car w/out them. maybe I'll have them turned off and see what people do/if it makes a difference.

My mind, the US Gvt, the Canadian Gvt, and lots of countries across the world. Motorcycles with headlights ON...same thing. Only a few non-believers out there...who will ultimately change their minds later when they get rammed head on by a truck who can't see them in the daytime for whatever reason. Anyone who thinks that you are better off with LIGHTS OFF than with LIGHTS ON during the day, anyone who thinks that oncoming traffic can see you MUCH BETTER if your headlights were OFF rather than if they were ON, those people have a major problem with their brain. And I can't believe you would side with them, the proponents and their websites read like the PETA folks and the Save The Whale projects and the idiots who destroy people's SUVs because they burn excessive gasoline. If you want to associate yourself with them, good for you. Not me. I'm against them. Completely.

You probably believe that safety belts are a total nuisance to you and will ultimately trap you in a fiery death; seatbelts are simply a money-make scam by local and state govt and there's no real proof that seatbelts will save you so seatbelts aren't a safety item are they?
