Default Engine covers...

What are the uses of having those three pieces of engine covers in the new IS's? What purpose do they serve? I took mine out and did not notice my engine any dirtier than with them on. What I did notice was that I could hear the engine more which is a good thing

On a side note.. how the heck do you put those clips back on? I placed them all in and they are still loose, ie. the middle stick is still sunk.

They're supposed to lessen wind drag, which in turn helps with acceleration, wind and engine noise, and gas mileage. But I think this is pretty minor. I think it has to do with aesthetics.

Personally, the quieter in the cabin, the better. I'm gonna keep them on.

There're 2 legs on the bottom of the clips. Spread them out and push it in...

the engine covers lessen wind drag? You must mean the tray beneath the engine compartment. The 3 plastic pieces (one in the front and 2 to the sides) on top of the engine compartment are cosmetic at best. There is no air movement between the hood and the top of the radiator.

The top 3 engine covers also help reduce engine noise from reaching the cabin.

also I have heard that the engine covers are because lexus customers do not want to see a dirty engine so they just covered it all up.

in theory, perhaps; I had them off over the weekend, and couldn't tell any difference. The firewall and the mat on the underside of the hood are the main sound absorbers.
