Default Changing headlights

I noticed that the manual for my IS250 says that only the dealer should change my low beam headlights. I was thinking about putting in white bulbs myself. Think there is any risk in doing this instead of going to the dealer?

Whew......be careful here. If you have any option package other than just a base model, you should have the bi-xenon HID headlamps and AFS (Adaptive Front lighting System). If you do.....do not attempt to change these bulbs. Don't go near them........ Not because they'll kill you (although they can if they're on, they use a ballast and transformer and run at an extremely high voltage), but because you don't want to take a chance at your dumb *** breaking them. The bulbs are over $300.00 each, and that doesn't include the ballasts or transformers (if you were to replace the bulb with an improper bulb, I'm sure you would risk some damage here as well). Either way.....if you have HID......if there's a sticker under the hood that says "High Voltage, do not open"....then stay the hell out. And if you have HID, then there's no reason to want to put in a "fake HID" lightbulb......

Luxury and Sports packages have HID, but Premium package doesn't. It's getting increasingly difficult to access the light bulbs in the newer cars due to cramped engine compartment. In G35 you even have to remove the wheel well liner, if not the front wheel/tire, to get to the bulbs.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just have regular non HID bulbs in my car and I want to put in "fake HID" ones.

err.... no.... no need to make things so exegerated.... me and tons of other people have changed hid a lot of times, i have never encountered any problems. as long as the car isn't running there is no THOUSAND volt on the hid buld.... and of course you should always so it ONLY if you know what you are doing, otherwise touching anything on the car is a stupid move.... if you know what you are doing, changing hid bulbs on the car is nothing harder than doing an oil change.....

and if it's just normal halogen, it's even easier that's all...

and btw, 300 bucks for ONE hid bulb? welcome to stealerships..... everything they charge you a premium anyway.... go to ebay and look for philips d2s 4300k hid bulbs, you can get a pair for around 80 bucks...

thats interesting, im thinking of trying to get my hands on a 350 with the premium package....but i really want hid lights, does that mean if i get it theres not feasible way to switch out the halogens to bi xenons?

if it's actually possible to switch to oem hid, it will definitely cost you an arm and leg, very expensive stuff

you can always get hid kits, it's a lot cheaper, but personally i don't suggest that at all

Does anybody know what type of bulb the new IS uses (Non-HID)? I know the stock is made by philips.

Xenon HID bulbs actually only run at 35W, vs. halogen headlight bulbs that run at 55W. It takes 20 kV (20,000 v) to light the bulb, however.
