Intakes really negatively effect the Mass Airflow Sensors of the 1gen. I would put the OEM intake with factory resonator back in. I know many people that had this problem including myself. How many miles on the car?

i was having a similar issue, so i did the following:
oil change, air filter(in your case, clean the cone filter), cleaned the MAF sensor with the electronics sensor cleaner from pepboys, bought some decent gas and ran it on the highway for a full tank. it helped alot.

then i installed the megan cat, and apexi full exhaust system....that really helped. also added a handful of mpg.

good luck!
clean your maf though. esp if youve had the aem on for a while cause it flows more air, thus more particulates dirties the sensor.

Check right: no cops
Check left: no cops
Check rear: no cops
Check front: no cops

In this case ^^^ launch the ***** out of it. Rev, and go. That'll get ya goin

Oh and buy a full exhaust, from the header-back. Helps it breathe
